Girls ages 7-14

 

Players will receive professional volleyball instruction from former and current college coaches and players in the fundamental skills they will need to excel at any level; with more intensive instruction and skill-work for more advanced players. All players will learn basic skills such as passing, serving, setting, hitting, and blocking with an emphasis on proper technique and many repetitions. In addition, players will learn individual defensive skills, team defenses, and work with both a 5-1 and 6-2 offense. High school players will work on various hits such as the slide, running a quick offense, and transition.

Deborah Wordell, Co-Director of AVC (The Academy)

Entering her eighth summer as director of the Blue Streak Volleyball Camps is Deborah Wordell. Wordell, a Hiram College Hall of Fame collegiate player, has also served as the Head Volleyball Coach at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio.  Now, as co-director of AVC, Wordell is committed to developing young women into competitive volleyball players by teaching the fundamental skills required to excel at the high school and collegiate level. 

 

Mark Ridley, Head Volleyball Coach - Notre Dame College
Entering his second season as director of the Bleu Streak Volleyball Camps is Mark Ridley. The winningest head coach in NDC volleyball history, Ridley has twice been named American Mideast Conference (AMC) North Division Coach of the Year (2004, 2007). His squads have included five First Team All-Conference performers.  Prior to coming to NDC, Ridley was at Oakland University, where he served as the assistant coach in 2001 and was named Head Coach for the 2002-03 season. Before making the move to NCAA Division I, Ridley was the head coach at Oakland Community College in 2000 and the assistant coach at NCAA Division II Grand Valley State from 1995-2000. Before his arrival at Grand Valley State, he served as an assistant coach for Grand Rapids Community College for the 1994-05 season.

Ridley has also coached several competitive junior Olympic club programs, where he compiled an overall record of 136-89-45. Most notably, in 1999, he was selected to coach at the United States Scholar Athlete Games in Rhode Island, which featured some of the top high school student athletes in the nation.

Ridley earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Western Michigan University. He resides in Highland Heights with his wife, Kathy.
